SOMA. Your screams will echo forerver.

SOMA is a game that created by Frictional the developers behind Pneumbra, and Amnesia series. If you have played any of these games. You've probably been watching SOMA very closely.

I've been waiting for a good horror game, for quite some time. When I hear SOMA was coming out this September was very anxious to play it.

Controls: The same mechanics and physics are present in this game from previous Frictional games, with a few updates here and there. You are able to play with either controller or keyboard & mouse. I played with the M&K and found my experience quite enjoyable.

Graphics: SOMA is a beautiful looking game. There was quite a bit of detail put into this game. With well lit areas, you can admire it. I didn't experience any graphical issues. You can tell Frictional gave this game a decent polish before release.

Atmosphere: I give Frictional props for being able to build great atmospheres for their games. SOMA is no exception. From looking around an apartment to walking down a structure under water. You are given the feel that you are there. The sound is done very well in this game.

Scares/Horror: To me, SOMA wasn't that scary. It was your typical cat and mouse survival horror game. You hear a sound and it turns out to be nothing. Sometimes the music hinted that something was coming but, nothing ever did. The monsters are avoidable with careful strategy. Towards the end of the game. Frictional kicks it up an extra notch.

Story: I don't want to spoil the story. The story is pretty forgettable and a bit tongue and cheek. SOMA does present some interesting choices during the progression of the game. Which usually have two outcomes. In the end the story isn't altered in anyway from what choices you have made.

The game is easily 6 to 8 hours long. But I did a little more exploration trying to find out more about the story. But, after a few story plugs through sound files, notes, and through a cyberish psychic reading. I started not to care.

For the price tag, I would hold off till it goes on sale or check out Kinguin if you don't want to pay the full price.

I was hoping that SOMA would present a little more in this Futuristic/Aquatic Survival Horror Game. But, for me it didn't deliver.

I give SOMA, a 3.0 out of 5.0
